Is this kayaking / SUP trip for you?

This trip brings together a mix of adventure kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), sea kayaking and packrafting — including a beginner-friendly introduction to whitewater. It’s designed for active travellers who enjoy being on the water and are keen to enjoy a variety of paddling experiences.

Our recommended minimum age is 14. We’re happy to consider younger participants who are confident, active and comfortable in an outdoor adventure setting — just get in touch to chat this through. We equally welcome paddlesports clubs to get in touch.

A basic level of prior paddling experience is essential, as you’ll get far more out of the trip if you already feel at ease handling a kayak or paddleboard.

For more detail on what to expect, you can read about our activity levels here.

Book to Give Back to Montenegro

We’re big on keeping destinations as beautiful as they were when we found them. So when you book with us, a percentage of the money you pay will be donated to our chosen local environmental or community causes for the year.

Learn more about our Book to Give Back scheme and other responsible tourism initiatives here.

Your hosts: Javi and Ale are an inspiring, fun and super-practical couple who will be your hosts at Villa Miela, along with our chosen local guides and community partners. They’ll be the ones welcoming you, sharing local tips, and making sure you have an awesome time at Lake Skadar – a place they’ve adopted as home as our company founders once did. Each paddling day will be with a licensed, local paddling instructor.

“Montenegro is a paddler’s paradise. Lakes, rivers, wetlands, coastline – whether you’re into SUPs, canoes or kayaks, flat water, white water or waves, you can enjoy all of it within 45 minutes of your accommodation at Lake Skadar. Where else can you experience such variety, whilst being based at a single, beautiful location for the entire week?” Ben, Paddle UK Coach and your holiday designer.

Day 1 – Arrival
Arrival and transfer to Virpazar, meet your hosts and get an introduction to the activities we’ll be doing during the week.

Day 2 – Kayaking to Lake Skadar’s island monasteries
This 4-5 hour adventure by kayak will take you across stunning mirrored waters from Murići on the southern shores, (also home to the lake’s best freshwater beach), with views up to the fabled peaks of Albania’s Accursed Mountains. You’ll have the lake all to yourself as you swim in crystal clear waters and visit the lake’s renowned 14th century island monastaries, all the while taking in the awesome views, varied birdlife and glorious solitude. Packed lunch provided, dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3 – SUP trip on the Morača Delta
The gorgeous green waters of the Morača delta are home to all kinds of different bird life – you’ll see kingfishers, herons, pygmy cormorants and more as we paddle an 11km loop around the island of Vranjina. No need to worry about wind – 80% of the trip is on protected river channels, with the option of a monastery visit, some rope swings and a riverside picnic all on the cards! Packed lunch provided, dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 4 – Sea kayaking the Adriatic coast
We’ll start to explore our new environment from the small beach of Maljevik in Bar Municipality, passing some of the most attractive points of the Montenegrin coast – secluded Queen’s beach, high cliffs around Buljarica beach, the small town of Petrovac, the famous isthmus of Sveti Stefan as well as plenty of awesome wild beaches, caves and inlets. We’ll stop at some of these places for a swim, lunch and for a rest. Finally we’ll reach the beautiful beach of Bečići, having a sunset dinner before heading back to Virpazar.

Day 5 – Rest day

Day 6 – White-water kayaking on the Morača
Need something more thrilling? Our awesome local paddlesports partners will take you on a white-water adventure, just an hour’s drive away (full kit provided). Zip down Grade 2/3 rapids along the crystal clear Morača river just north of the capital, Podgorica, under the tutelage of an expert instructor! Solo packrafts and tandem self-bailing white-water kayaks are available. Snacks provided and late lunch/dinner taken in Podgorica.

Day 7 – Kayaking from Karuč to Rijeka Crnojevića
This unique 19km kayaking trip first of all takes in a visit to the iconic horseshoe bend viewpoint of Pavlova Strana before launching from the remote fishing village of Karuč. We will paddle down lilly-pad lined channels, open lake and finally up the many serpentines of the Crnojević river before reaching the quaint village itself on the northern shores of the lake for a lovely fish dinner at renowned restaurant Stari Most.
