“A fabulous experience…the team were fantastic. We saw some of the most beautiful river scenery on the planet and kayaked some pretty scary rapids. We will always remember it…Thanks to Ben and team for organising and to Gigo, Adam and Mirko for making it a great adventure.” Matthew Bailey, July 2022

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1 – Arrival
15:00 – collection from Podgorica and transfer to Camp Grab on the banks of the Tara river (3 hours). We will then have a brief introduction to our equipment and the paddling sections we will be tackling, along with a group dinner and overnight in simple bungalows.

Day 2 – Piva Lake Paddling Trip
Breakfast at Camp Grab. After a 30-minute transfer to Mratinje village, we will cover basic techniques on the beautiful green flat water of this stunning lake. This will include paddling strokes, re-entering the pack raft from the water and a full practical safety briefing, including protocols for when paddling white water – as well as some swimming! After this, we will visit Jazz Bar Zvono, take lunch and afterwards we will drive back to prepare for the Tara River Expedition. Group dinner and drinks at Camp Grab.

Day 3 – Splavište – Radovan Luka
Breakfast at Camp Grab. We will then transfer to Žabljak (Djurdjevica Tara bridge), where prior to setting off on the expedition proper, you will have the chance to take the famous zip-line across the Tara gorge! We then take our gear down to the water for a perfect introductory paddle on the river, with some gentle rapids (Grade 2) and stunning scenery as standard. Here is where the real adventure begins – we will also visit and do a small hike at the Ljutica river canyon (the shortest river in Europe). We finish at the deepest part of Tara River Canyon (1300m). Paddle distance: 30km approx 4 hrs on the river. Group dinner, drinks and overnight at the beautiful Motel Radovan Luka.

Day 4 – Radovan Luka – Brštanovica
Time to paddle along the most beautiful part of the canyon. We will visit Sige Bajlovića, a famous waterfall that will take your breath away, and will take a small hike to visit a beautiful hidden cave in the middle of the canyon, with a lake inside of it (a chance for the brave to jump into and swim in this cold but clear water). The grade of the river on this day is 2. Paddle distance: 25km approx 4 hrs on the river. Group dinner, drinks and overnight at Camp Encijan, on the Bosnian side of the river (no passports required!).

Day 5 – Brštanovica – Ščepan Polje
The most exciting part of the river, from Encijan to Camp Grab. This is the section with the most rapids: Brštanovica, Borovi, Celije and more! This is the 16 km section, grade 2-3 rapids and an ideal chance for us to enjoy white water and practice what we learned on the first few days. We will go slowly, taking each rapid one at a time, we will practice entrance and exiting the eddies, and we will make a stop to jump from the cliffs and get our adrenaline dose from the white water itself! We will paddle until the end of river Tara when it meets Piva river.
After we finish with our paddling we will have 20 min transfer and we will be back to where everything started (Camp Grab), where we’ll enjoy dinner next to the fireplace where we will share our memories from this amazing adventure. Paddle distance: 15km, approx 3 hrs on the river. Group dinner, drinks and overnight at Camp Grab.

Day 6 – Chill Day at Camp Grab
Time to relax after our expedition – or you could opt for an extra activity day! Options available include canyoning, hiking or white-water rafting (you pay the providers directly). Group dinner, drinks and overnight at Camp Grab.

Day 7 – Departure
Transfer back to Podgorica, or to an alternative destination (for which there would be an extra charge payable direct to the provider).

We use Kokopelli pack rafts for this trip. They are super tough, super light (only 2kgs!) and super stable – but you have to prepare to get wet! We provide full wetsuits, buoyancy aids and a five-star safety briefing.

Prices are in £ Sterling per person and include all packrafting trips with professional instruction and guiding, breakfasts, packed lunches and all dinners, as well as all equipment and transport.
